An 1849 Farmhouse in Wrightsville, Reimagined.

An architect-led referral, a couple with a long-collected stash of vintage materials, and a 168-year-old farmhouse waiting to come back to itself.

The exterior signals the new direction — white board-and-batten siding, black windows, a red standing-seam roof, and twin cupolas with a skylit interior corridor below them. The vaulted master bedroom is built around three reclaimed barn beams pulled from the property itself; an oversized sliding barn door from the homeowners' church became the entrance to the walk-in closet.

Inside, shiplap walls, a herringbone brick floor tile, a custom barn-wood island topped with stainless steel, and salvaged extra-wide attic floorboards reused in the master suite anchor the modern farmhouse aesthetic. A claw-foot tub and carrara-look tile shower complete the master bath.

Some of the work was hidden underneath. Decades of paint were stripped to restore historic features that the previous owners had buried. The new construction was woven in so carefully that it's hard to tell which is which.
